The characteristics of silica sol are as follows: a dispersion of nanoscale silicon dioxide particles in water or solvent, featuring high specific surface area, excellent stability, heat resistance, strong adhesion, and superior film-forming properties.
1. Physical Form and Stability
Particle Size and Morphology: Particle size typically ranges from 5 to 100 nm, classifying it as a colloidal solution at the nanoscale. The particles are spherical in shape, appearing as a semi-transparent to colorless transparent liquid.
Stability: Low viscosity (as low as 1 mPa·s), with some products remaining stable across a pH range of 1–14 and exhibiting strong resistance to ionic interference.
2. Chemical and Surface Properties
High Specific Surface Area and Adsorption Capacity: Due to their fine particle size and large specific surface area, these colloidal particles demonstrate excellent adsorption ability.
Adhesion and Film Formation: Upon evaporation of water, siloxane bonds (-Si-O-Si-) form between colloidal particles, firmly adhering to surfaces and creating a dense, continuous film with outstanding adhesion.
Heat and Weather Resistance: Exhibits high thermal stability, corrosion resistance, and excellent water resistance. The resulting film is dense, non-static, and highly resistant to contamination.
3. Product Types and Customization
Diverse Varieties: Classified by pH into acidic silica sol (pH 2–4) and alkaline silica sol (pH 8.5–10); further customized options include low-sodium and neutral silica sol based on specific requirements.
Customizable: Supports tailoring of particle size distribution (8–160 nm), pH value, and SiO₂ content (20%–40%) according to customer needs, meeting diverse industrial application requirements.
