Silica sol is a highly dispersed colloidal solution of nano-sized silicon dioxide (SiO₂) particles in water . Its chemical properties are primarily determined by its high specific surface area, abundant surface silanol groups (Si-OH), and stable Si-O-Si chemical bonds .

When water evaporates, the silanol groups on the surface of the silica sol particles undergo dehydration condensation reactions, forming a Si-O-Si three-dimensional network. This results in a dense, hard, and chemically stable inorganic film .Its inorganic nature makes it unaffected by UV radiation, providing outstanding weather resistance and anti-aging capabilities . Silica sol is an inorganic aqueous solution, which is non-toxic, odorless, non-flammable, and non-explosive, making it an environmentally friendly material .
